AUCTION
NEWS:
Thanks to all the enthusiastic bidders and buyers our Auction was a huge
success! Your purchases realized a profit of $1881.18!
Wow! A special thanks goes out to our auctioneer, Roland
Parent. Awesome job, Roland! And also thanks to Joyce Parent
who recorded each bid winner. Their behind-the-scenes help was
invaluable. Also thanks to Susan Babineau and Marge Moniz who took
care of receipts and payments. Thanks for being such willing
volunteers. And let’s not forget our runners...they really delivered!
Please remember when you
are cleaning out your sewing supplies, we accept donations all year for the
auction and the Dollar Table. Just drop them off at the Dollar Table
or call us! (If you’ve never visited the Dollar Table, we’re there at
every meeting — check out the great bargains!). Put May 2009 on your
calendar for next year’s auction! Thanks again from Jeanne Adler and
Marilyn Lawendowski. And the Guild extends thanks back to both Jeanne
and Marilyn for their organization of the Auction! Great Job!
BLACK
AND WHITE CHALLENGE There
were some great black and white quilts on display at the May meeting!
Congratulations to everyone who participate. The Best of Show winner
was Georgette Freeman and the Viewer’s Choice went to Gloria Smith.
Fabulous work ladies! Akiko has asked that if you are coming to the
picnic to bring your Black and White Challenges for photographs for the
website.
RAFFLE QUILT—NORTHERN LIGHTS As you probably all know,
our Raffle Quilt for this year is called Northern Lights. There is a
photo of the same on the website and by now everyone should have received
their two books of raffle tickets. We are asking each member to sell
(or purchase for yourself!!) two books of tickets. Of course, if you
want to sell more than that, we have plenty more to give you! See
Alice Hunt (tel. 413-245-9942) for tickets. The fabrics were donated
by Holice Turnbow, pieced by Avis Meskus and quilted by Judy Bachand.
The quilt will be shown at various venues, such as Images, The Gathering,
The Leicester Fair, Woodstock Agricultural Day. If you would be
willing to help sell tickets at these events, please contact Audri Brisson
Perron (tel. 508 949 7640). Drawing for the winning ticket will be
November 15, 2008.
The Activities Committee will have a survey. After you fill out the survey at
meeting and turn it in, you will be given a ticket for a drawing for a
prize to be drawn at the June meeting. Be sure to fill in your survey
to give your input as to what sort of activities you want the Guild to present.
Let your voice be heard!
The Quilt Show Committee has been meeting and discussing
our next Quilt Show. In September, there will be sign-up sheets for
those interested in participating on a Committee for the Show. Bridggette
Fink, Margrit Barry and Alice Hunt recently attended the Student of the
Quarter Award breakfast at Tantasqua High School. They met with the
Chairman of the Vocation Department and there was a suggestion that the
Vocational Department might consider making quilt racks for our quilt
show. The suggestion was well received. The chefs at the
Cornerstone Café were also very positive about opening the café for the
2009 Quilt Show!
The
Show Pin and Quilt Pattern
from our 2007 Quilt Show will be sold at the Guild meetings from March to
June. They will be available before the meeting and at the break.

Celebrating Agriculture Day Laura Salo reports that the Guild
will be represented again at the Celebrating Agriculture Day held at the
Woodstock Fair Grounds on Saturday, September 20, 2008. If anyone is interested
in participating or helping out, please call Laura at 860-974-2737, or
email her at laurasalo3@hotmail.com.
“Student of the Quarter” program The $250.00 donated to Tantasqua
Jr. /Sr. High School by the Quilt Show Committee will be used to support
their “Student of the Quarter” program which is an incentive program for
students who are not always recognized. These students, who are
recommended by each faculty member, must exhibit academic progress,
leadership and improved attendance. These students, along with their
parents, are treated to a special breakfast at the Cornerstone Café at
Tantasqua.
