The Board has been
approached by several members asking for permission to sell items before the
meeting and during breaks, etc. The Board has unanimously voted that
this will no longer be allowed. If you have items you wish to sell,
you may post those items on the website, and however, we will no longer
allow members to sell items at the meetings. The Board apologizes for
any inconvenience, but stands firm in its decision. Thank you.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Old
Sturbridge Village is looking for volunteer quilters to work with the staff
on several quilt and textile projects over the next year. These
projects range from working on reproduction quilts, doing hand piecing, and
teaching people how to do English paper piecing. If you are
interested in volunteering, please see either Terrie LaBombard or Sue
Therriault at our next meeting.
QUILT GUILD RETREAT—OCTOBER
2010
The
2010 Quilt Retreat will once again be held Columbus Day weekend, Friday to
Sunday, October 8 to 10, 2010 at Purity Springs Resort in Madison, NH.
According to the Retreat Committee, there are only six spaces left.
So, if you want to join in the fun, please contact Karen Richard at 508 867
2333 or Gerry DeSimone at 508 867 6245 or stop by the Committee’ table at the March meeting.
Payments can be made in installments at our monthly meetings, but full
payment is expected by the May meeting. We hope that you will join us
for a fun and relaxing getaway.
BROWN BAG SURPRISE SALE
At
our April meeting, instead of having an auction, the Ways and Means
Committee will be selling bags of assorted fabric and quilting items for $5.00
each or $10.00 each. Each bag will contain items worth much more than
$5.00 or $10.00. These bags will be sealed so the contents are truly
a “SURPRISE”. In the foyer, there will
be a table where you can pay $5.00 or $10.00 and will receive a random
number. The numbers will be called in order when we begin, so it’s the luck of the draw on both
counts. We hope you will find this a fun way to add to your sewing
supplies while benefiting the Guild.
Thank
You From the YMCA
We
recently received this letter of thanks from Carol Brodeur of the YMCA.
Dear Deborah,
Please extend a thank you to all the members of the Cornerstone Quilters
Guild who participated in giving so generously of their talents and gifts.
The parents were given notes explaining the gifts were given through the
Guild's generosity and delivered by the Y. Everyone's small acts of
kindness blossoms into a community of needy children being served, so on
behalf of those children and families, please accept this grateful thank you!
Merry Christmas! Carol Brodeur
BUS TRIP TO THE AQS SHOW IN LANCASTER, PA
UPDATE
As
Alice Hunt said at our November meeting, there is good news and bad news
and good news. The first good news is that the American Quilt Society
has taken over the Heritage Quilt Show in Lancaster, PA and there will be a
show on March 24-27, 2010 at the Lancaster Convention Center. The bad
news is that there has NOT been sufficient time for the Bus Trip Committee
to make all the arrangements necessary for a guild-sponsored trip in
2010. But, there is plenty of time to plan and make arrangements for
a trip in 2011. Cindy Nagle has agreed to chair this Committee with
Alice Hunt and Johanne Peterson. Johanne has information about a bus
trip from Arlington, MA to the show (including a stop in Charlton) with
lots of shopping along the way. Please see Johanne for more
info!
MEMBERSHIP NEWS
Sue Whiterell reports that we now have 176 paid
members! Many of you haven't picked
up your membership cards. Remember,
you may receive valuable discounts at many quilt shops by presenting your
card. Please pick them up at the
sign-in table at a Guild meeting, or send a self-addressed stamped envelope
to Sue Whiterell, 6 Jackie Drive, Millbury, MA 01527 and she will mail it
to you.
THANK YOU NOTES
The
Guild has received over 500 yards of fabric donated to our Outreach program
from Sharon Collette of Scrap Happy, 157 Harrington Street, East
Brookfield. Scrap Happy offers classes, fabrics and associated
services. Their telephone number is 508 885 4052. Sharon also
generously donated approximately 150 fat quarters to be given out at our
Quilt Show.
MANY THANKS TO OUR OUTREACH COMMITTEE
Since
its inception, the Cornerstone Quilters Guild has focused its attention on
providing quilts to local organizations. In 2009, nearly one hundred
(100) quilts have been given to the Charlton Fire Department, the Worcester
Interfaith Hospitality Network, Compassion Pregnancy Center, Tri-Valley in
Webster, UMASS Memorial Oncology, the American Red Cross, Bethlehem House,
Lanessa Extended Care, and Quaboag on the Commons Nursing Home, the
Guardian Hospice of MA, and the Mary Lane Hospital in Ware. In the
spring, guild members began to contribute pillowcases to the ConKerr Cancer
organization and, to date, nearly two hundred (200) have been given to this
important group.
So,
please join me in thanking Marge Moniz and her committee: Ellinor
Allen, Allison Anderson, Joyce Blanchette, Cathy Carpentier, Terri
Donnelly, Mary Eastman, Nancy Eastman, Sandy Johnson, Jean Mateychuk, Avis
Meskus, Dianne Nagy, Betsy Palmer, Deb Park, Jackie Russell, Johanne
Peterson and Alice Schroth. The Committee puts together kits for us
to work on at home and then completes them on the second and fourth Fridays
of the month. Marge and her committee are always looking for new
recruits. Stop by the Outreach Table, thank them for their good
works, and pick up a kit to work on at home.
Thank
you, Outreach! You make us proud to be a member of the Cornerstone
Quilt Guild!!
AUCTION NEWS
Well,
another auction has come and gone. We missed those of you who couldn’t be there. Those who were
bid us up to a grand total of $1,466.00! Thank you all for your
generosity; you make it worthwhile. Enjoy your goodies! A big “”Thanks”” goes out to our auctioneer,
Roland Parent, and his lovely wife, Joyce. Their behind-the-scenes
help was invaluable. They are always there for support and help when
needed. And Roland makes the auction so much fun! Bravo!
Also,
many thanks to our helpers who recorded bids, took in payments, brought us
the items as we needed them, and our runner who delivered again this year!
We
will accept donations for the auction all year, just see us at the dollar
table. So keep cleaning Quilters! We hope to have an auction
next year and it’s success
starts with you!
Many
thanks - Jeanne Adler and Marilyn Lawendowski, Ways & Means
NEW FUNDRAISER
Roland
Parent will be making up some “”Quilting
Angel””
pins. He will have some available for you to see at the June
picnic and then again in September. The pins come in silver and gold
and have different quilt charms. You may order your pin at the cost
of $12.00. The Guild will receive $5.00 of this price and the
remainder of the amount is donated by Roland to Cancer Research in honor of
his grandson, a cancer survivor. Please order your pin and support
the Guild and Cancer Research. This is a most worthwhile
fundraiser.
The
Raffle Quilt was
won by William Gagnon of Sturbridge and he was at the November meeting to
pick up his prize! The gross sales of tickets was $2,309.00 less
expenses of $437.32, leaving a net profit for the Guild of $1,871.79
Thank you to everyone for your help in piecing and quilting the quilt and
for the ticket sales.
“Student of the Quarter” program The $250.00 donated to Tantasqua
Jr. /Sr. High School by the Quilt Show Committee will be used to support
their “Student of the Quarter” program which is an incentive program for
students who are not always recognized. These students, who are
recommended by each faculty member, must exhibit academic progress,
leadership and improved attendance. These students, along with their
parents, are treated to a special breakfast at the Cornerstone Café at
Tantasqua.
